6 Hip-Hop Songs That Defined Vine In 2014

One thing we know to be true at the end of 2014: Addictive, looping videos are pretty much always better with a hip-hop soundtrack. As Vine came into its own this year, it helped bring a slew of previously obscure rap songs to the popular consciousness on a massive scale, further challenging conventional wisdom on what constitutes a "hit." For rappers whose tracks flourished on the social network, record deals and a chance at genuine stardom were a definite possibility.

What exactly makes these songs go viral? Of course it's impossible to say definitively. But short, memorable lyric fragments and dramatic production (gotta make the most of those six seconds, after all) are a consistent theme. As are fun and easy dances, which can encourage members of the Vine community to put their own spin on things and provide social momentum.
